- Coconut Sugar:
To start with this is the easiest 1-on-1 substitute for our regular white or brown sugar and does not need any extra efforts to replace sugar with it.
A locally sourced honey is the best sweetener and adds a very rich flavor to all of your sweet treat recipes. Use ¾ cup of honey for every 1 cup of white sugar in your recipes. It adds a bit of a natural flavor and is equally sweet.
- Maple Syrup:
Maple Syrup is an amazing natural substitute for sugar but is in a liquid form so you will have to reduce the amount of liquid in your recipes by 3-4 tablespoons. Try using ¾ cup of syrup as a substitute for 1 cup of sugar.
- Agave Nectar/Agave Syrup:
In place of 1 cup of sugar use 2/3 cup of nectar but the nectar comes in a liquid form so you will have to take some extra measures. Reduce other liquids used in the recipes by ¼ cup; since using agave helps in browning the baked goods lower your oven temperature by 25⁰F and slightly increase the baking time for best results.
Molasses is a by-product of refined sugar production. For every cup of sugar you will want to add in 1-1/3 cup of molasses and reduce your liquids by 4-5 tablespoons.
- Fruit Concentrates:
Use ¾ cup of fruit concentrate for every 1 cup of sugar and reduce the amount of liquids in your recipes by 4 tablespoons. This substitute is more suitable for recipes that are based on fruity flavors.
